SPENCER, INDIANA – Karen Snyder, resident of Cataract, has been appointed by Owen County Democratic Party Chairman Anton K. Neff to the Jennings Township Board. She will complete the remainder of Wayne Snyder’s term as board member through December 31, 2010. Wayne, Karen’s husband, passed way earlier this month. Neff noted, “Wayne is sadly missed. He had served as a Township Board member for a several years. He was well attuned to issues facing Jennings Township and the Cataract area—especially as owner and operator of the Cataract General Store.”

Karen has been a resident of Owen County since 1982. She has three children and several grandchildren. She is originally from Indianapolis and had also spent five years in Germany. She is a member of the Missionary Baptist Church of Cataract. She is a part-time nurse for St. Vincent Hospital’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and she also plans to continue operation of the Cataract General Store. Karen will join Steve Mader and Don Meek who also serve on the Jennings Township Board. Neff noted, “Karen came highly recommended and is a welcome member of the board. She will continue the interest in township government that Wayne had and we are glad to have her on our team.”

A township board works with the township Trustee regarding the activities of the township. Primary responsibilities are to discuss and approve the township budget, secure fire protection, and address all issues regarding township government. Neff continued, “Our party feels that township level positions are very important. Township government gives people an opportunity to directly serve their immediate community.”
