Local Democrat precinct committee officials met today, Saturday, for their quadrennial reorganization meeting. Anton K. Neff was re-elected as Chairman of the Owen County Democratic Party. Joining him are three new faces to the party’s leadership, Debbie Foutch as Vice-Chairperson, Cynthia Hyde as Secretary, and David Gohn as Treasurer.
Those in attendance gave the former Vice-Chairwoman Mary Wheeler, Secretary Fred Drescher, and Treasurer Gib Tucker, a warm thank you for their service to the party. Their efforts and work for the party was very much appreciated.
Anton Neff has called Owen County his home for the last 27 years and is currently engaged to Shannon Lock of Madison, Indiana, and soon to be a first-time homeowner. He is currently employed as an insurance agent with Bloomington Insurance Agency. He is member of the Owen County Council representing District Two, and serves as the Council’s appointment to the Owen County Plan Commission. He is an active member of the Spencer Lion’s Club, serving as a Director. He also supports the Owen Valley Middle School athletic program by volunteering as the game book-keeper and announcer. He also serves as a Big Brother through the Big Brother/Big Sister program.
Debbie Foutch and her husband, Richard, make their home near Patricksburg along with three children. She was a candidate for Assessor in 2002, has served as the Washington Three vice precinct committeeperson, and helped coordinate the party’s Relay for Life team activities. She is currently employed with the Town of Spencer where part of her duty as crossing guard at Main & Morgan Streets in Spencer, allows her to interact and help children while on there way to and from school. She has also assisted with the county’s Emergency Management department.
Cynthia Hyde and her husband Tony live in Spencer along with their sons, Anthony and Eddie. She is currently employed with the Owen County Recorder's office and serves as the Washington Three vice-precinct committeeperson. She has volunteered with the After School Drug Prevention Program at Spencer Elementary, and as a Crisis Intervention Counselor. She has served on the Board of Directors for the South Central Community Action Program, is currently an assistant 4-H leader, and served as both President and Secretary with the Friends of the Owen County Public Library. Her family is actively involved with the Owen County 4-H Fishing Team and the Owen Valley FFA.
David Gohn is relatively new to the Owen County community having moved from Jackson County with his wife Peggy, about two years ago. They have a son and daughter, both in college. He is a graduate of the University of Evansville and has a Law Degree from the University of Louisville. He has practiced law since 1986 and had served as Deputy Prosecutor in Jackson County for 13 years. He currently works in a similar capacity here in the Owen County Prosecutor’s office. He is no stranger to Democrat party leadership having served as Vice-Chairman and Treasurer of the Jackson County Democratic Party. He has volunteered with the Owen County Learning Network teaching adults to read.
Neff noted, “It has been an honor to be trusted with such responsibility as Chairman. Each of the Central Committee members that make up our team play an important role in managing our party. I am looking forward to working with them as well as continuing to work with all of our party’s members and the public”. |
