Effective May 31, 2004, Gosport Town Board member and President, Bill Arnold, will have resigned from his position. Citing personal reasons, Bill will leave the post after serving 5 months. The procedure to fill this type of vacancy is outlined in Indiana Code 3-13-11-5(c) which states that the applicable County Chairman shall fill the vacancy no later than 30 days after the vacancy occurs. As May 31st is the effective date of the resignation, June 30th is the deadline to appoint a successor. The search is already underway, but time is going to be taken before a decision is made. "Receiving a resignation from any elected official is always a serious issue. Bill's decision is Bill's decision and that should be respected. This is not a situation where one should rush to judgment or, rush to find a successor. Reasonable time will be taken to find an eligible person to serve on this board. That person will be selected based on their ability to fulfill the position's responsibilities and their ability to work with people."
